Lij Iyasu was an actual name given to the man who later became emperor of Ethiopia. He was born as Sahle Maryam, but took the name Lij Iyasu when he was appointed heir to the throne. He reigned from 1913 to 1916, when he was deposed and replaced by his cousin, Tafari Makonnen.
