John Barbirolli reached the age of 70 before his death. He was born on 2 December 1899 and died on 29 July 1970. He was a British conductor who was particularly known for his work with the Hallé Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra. He was also a noted opera conductor, and conducted many productions at Covent Garden and the Metropolitan Opera.
