Joseph Kabila served as the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 2001 to 2019. He took office after the assassination of his father, Laurent-Désiré Kabila, who had led the country since 1997. Joseph Kabila was re-elected in 2006 and 2011, but his second term was marred by allegations of fraud. He was succeeded by Félix Tshisekedi in 2019.
