Jozef Tiso was born in 1887 in Bytča, Austria-Hungary (now Slovakia). He was a Roman Catholic priest and politician who served as the president of the Slovak Republic from 1939 to 1945. During World War II, he collaborated with the Nazi regime and was responsible for the deportation of Slovak Jews to Nazi concentration camps. After the war, he was tried for treason and executed in 1947.
