Answer
Diego Colón was appointed governor of Puerto Rico by King Ferdinand in 1511, replacing Juan Ponce de León. Colón was the son of Christopher Columbus, who had first discovered the island in 1493. Colón's tenure as governor was marked by conflict with the indigenous Taíno people, who were eventually subjugated by the Spanish. In 1523, Colón was replaced as governor by his brother, Bartolomé.
