Charles the Bold was the Duke of Burgundy from 1467 until his death at the Battle of Nancy in 1477. He was the son of Philip the Good and Isabella of Portugal. Charles was a skilled military leader and expanded the Burgundian territories to include much of modern-day Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. He was also a patron of the arts and literature.
