Lysimachus died in 281 BC at the age of 62 after being defeated in battle by Seleucus I Nicator at the Battle of Corupedium. Lysimachus was a general under Alexander the Great and after Alexander's death, he became one of the Diadochi, the generals who fought to control Alexander's empire. Lysimachus ruled over Thrace and Macedonia, and he was one of the most powerful of the Diadochi.
