Max Euwe achieved his historic victory against reigning World Champion Alexander Alekhine in 1935, making him the fifth World Chess Champion and the first from the Netherlands to obtain the title. However, his reign was short-lived as he lost the title back to Alekhine in their rematch the following year, thus never reclaiming the title again.
