Giroldi was born in Panama City, Panama, on February 11, 1939. He attended the Military Academy of the Republic of Panama and was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1962. He served in various combat and staff positions throughout his career, including as commander of the 1st Infantry Battalion and chief of staff of the National Guard. In 1987, he was appointed by President Manuel Noriega as minister of defense.
