Murad V was the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 31 August 1876 to 31 August 1876. He was deposed by his uncle Abdul Hamid II. Murad V suffered from mental illness, and his uncle was able to take advantage of this to seize power. Abdul Hamid II ruled the Ottoman Empire for 33 years, and was known as the "Red Sultan" due to his brutal repression of dissent.
