Nguyễn Văn Thiệu was the president of South Vietnam from 1967 to 1975. He was a staunch anti-communist and supported the United States during the Vietnam War. He was also a controversial figure, as he was accused of corruption and human rights abuses. After the fall of South Vietnam in 1975, he fled to the United States, where he lived until his death in 2001.
