Otto of Brunswick was a German nobleman who was the main rival of Philip of Swabia for the German throne. He was the son of Henry the Lion, Duke of Saxony, and Matilda of England. Otto was elected King of Germany by the princes of the Holy Roman Empire in 1198, but Philip was also elected king by a rival group of princes.
