Which leader introduced reforms to open up the regime after Trujillo's departure?

  • Joaquín Balaguer

  • Ramfis Trujillo

  • Antonio Imbert Barrera

  • Fidel Castro

Answer

Joaquín Balaguer was the leader of the Dominican Republic from 1966 to 1978 and again from 1986 to 1996. He introduced a number of reforms to open up the regime after Trujillo's departure, including allowing more political parties to operate and holding elections. However, he also continued many of Trujillo's policies, including repression of dissent and corruption.
