Rashid al-Din Hamadani was commissioned by Ghazan, the Ilkhan of Iran, to write the Jāmiʿ al-Tawārīkh, a world history. The book was commissioned in 1304 and was completed in 1316. It is one of the most important historical works of the Islamic world and is still considered to be a valuable source of information on the history of the Middle East and Central Asia.
