Mohamed Naguib became the first president of Egypt in 1952 after the Egyptian Revolution. He was a former general in the Egyptian Army and a member of the Free Officers Movement, a group of Egyptian military officers who overthrew the monarchy of King Farouk in 1952. Naguib served as president until 1954, when he was overthrown by Gamal Abdel Nasser, another member of the Free Officers Movement.
