Robert Guéï was a military officer and politician in Côte d'Ivoire. He served as the second president of the country from 1999 to 2000. Guéï seized power in a coup d'état in 1999, after the death of longtime president Félix Houphouët-Boigny. He was then elected president in 2000, but was overthrown by a popular uprising in 2001.
