Answer
Werner Heisenberg was a German theoretical physicist who made significant contributions to quantum mechanics. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1932 "for the creation of quantum mechanics, the foundation of the new theoretical physics". Peierls studied under Heisenberg at the University of Leipzig from 1928 to 1933. Heisenberg's work on quantum mechanics was a major influence on Peierls' own research in the field.
