Rudolf Peierls was a German-born British physicist who made significant contributions to Theory of quantum mechanics, solid state physics and nuclear physics. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1962, together with John Bardeen and Leon Cooper, for their work on Theory of superconductivity.
