Bhindranwale was a Sikh religious leader and politician who led an armed resistance against the Indian government. In 1984, the Indian army launched Operation Blue Star, a military operation to flush out Sikh militants from the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Bhindranwale was killed during the operation.
