Prince or Knyaz is a Slavic title used in Eastern Europe, and refers to a monarch of a small state. Prior to being titled Emperor, Simeon I was styled as Prince or Knyaz. Simeon I was the founder of the Bulgarian Empire and ruled from 893 to 927. He is considered one of the most important figures in Bulgarian history.
