Question 15:From which election was Sirimavo barred due to her civil rights being stripped?

  • 1980 presidential election

  • 1982 presidential election

  • 1984 presidential election

  • 1986 parliamentary election

Answer

Sirimavo Bandaranaike was barred from the 1982 presidential election due to her civil rights being stripped. This was done by Then president, J.R. Jayawardene, in order to prevent her from running against him. Bandaranaike had previously been prime minister of Sri Lanka, and was a popular politician. Jayawardene was concerned that she would be a strong opponent, and so he used his power to prevent her from running.
