Sirimavo Bandaranaike was the first female prime minister of Sri Lanka and she served two terms in office. She was a strong advocate for women's rights and created the Sri Lankan Ministry of Women and Child Affairs in 1975. The ministry is responsible for promoting the welfare of women and children in Sri Lanka.
