William Walker was an American soldier of fortune who led two invasions of Nicaragua during the Carrera administration. Walker first invaded in 1855 and quickly established himself as the leader of the country. He was eventually overthrown by a coalition of Central American forces, but he returned in 1860 and was again defeated.
