Viscount Beauchamp was Edward Seymour's first official title. It was given to him by King Henry VIII in 1540. Seymour was a very powerful man at the time, and he held a number of other titles, including Earl of Hertford and Duke of Somerset. He was also a member of the Privy Council, and he played a key role in the government of England.
