Takemoto was the maiden name of Patsy Mink, the first woman of color elected to the United States Congress. Mink was born in Hawaii in 1927 and went on to become a prominent advocate for civil rights and gender equality. She served in the House of Representatives from 1965 to 1977 and was instrumental in passing the Equal Rights Amendment.
