Tom Lantos was a Hungarian-American politician who served as the United States Representative from California from 1981 until his death in 2008. He was the first Hungarian American to serve in the United States Congress, and was a leading advocate for human rights and democracy. In 2009, the Tom Lantos Foundation for Human Rights & Justice was established in his honor.
