Sigismund I was the King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1506 to 1548. He was the son of Casimir IV Jagiellon and Elizabeth of Austria. Sigismund I was a member of the Jagiellon dynasty. He was a Catholic and he promoted Catholicism in Poland and Lithuania. He also promoted education and culture.
