Answer
Pilate is a controversial figure in Christianity. In most Christian denominations he is seen as a Roman prefect who sentenced Jesus to death. However, in Ethiopian Orthodoxy, he is venerated as a martyr and a saint. This is because, according to Ethiopian tradition, Pilate was converted to Christianity after witnessing the resurrection of Jesus. He is also said to have been martyred by the Roman Emperor Tiberius.
