Answer
After World War II, Alexandru Tzigara-Samurcaș retreated into obscurity due to ideological incompatibility with the Romanian communist regime. He had been a vocal critic of the Soviet Union, and had expressed his support for the Western Allies during the war. In 1945, he was forced to resign from his position as rector of the University of Bucharest, and he was subsequently banned from publishing or speaking in public.
