Alexandru Tzigara-Samurcaș was a Romanian writer, diplomat, art historian and collector. He served as secretary to King Carol I from 1882 to 1885. Tzigara-Samurcaș was a prominent figure in Romanian cultural life in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was a member of the Romanian Academy and a founder of the Romanian Museum of Art.
