William Buckland was an English theologian, geologist and palaeontologist who studied and described fossilised dinosaur bones in the early 19th century. He is credited with naming the first dinosaur, Iguanodon, and was a founding member of the Geological Society of London. Buckland was also a devout Christian who believed that the earth was created by God and that fossil evidence supported the Bible.
