Who pardoned Larkin from prison in 1923?

  • Al Smith

  • Franklin D. Roosevelt

  • Woodrow Wilson

  • Herbert Hoover

Answer

Al Smith pardoned Larkin from prison in 1923, after serving five years of his sentence for sedition. Smith had been a supporter of the Larkinites during the 1913 strike, and believed that Larkin had been unjustly imprisoned. The pardon was seen as a victory for the Larkinites, and helped to strengthen their position within the Irish labour movement.
