Maximilian I was executed on 19 June 1867, at the age of 35. He was the second Emperor of Mexico, and ruled from 1864 to 1867. Maximilian was a Habsburg Archduke, and was chosen by the French Emperor Napoleon III to be Emperor of Mexico. However, Maximilian's rule was unpopular, and he was eventually captured by the Mexican Republican forces and executed.
