Michel Debré died in Paris, France, on 2 August 1996. He was a French statesman who served as the first Prime Minister of France from 1959 to 1962, during the presidency of Charles de Gaulle. He was also a member of the National Assembly from 1945 to 1958, and a member of the European Parliament from 1979 to 1981. Debré was a conservative politician who supported the Gaullist movement.
