Mirosław Hermaszewski, the first and only Polish cosmonaut, passed away on 12 December 2022 at the age of 81. Hermaszewski was born on 15 September 1941 in Lipniki, Poland. He was selected as a cosmonaut in 1976 and flew aboard the Soyuz 30 mission to the Salyut 6 space station in 1978. He spent eight days in space, conducting experiments and performing maintenance tasks.
