Philip of Swabia was crowned king in 1198. He was the son of Frederick Barbarossa, who was the Holy Roman Emperor at the time. Philip's father died in 1190, and Philip became king after defeating his brother Henry VI in a civil war. Philip was a strong ruler, and he helped to expand the Holy Roman Empire. He died in 1208, and was succeeded by his son Frederick II.
