Henry VI was the predecessor of Philip as King of Germany. He was the only son of Frederick Barbarossa, who was the Holy Roman Emperor. Henry VI was crowned King of Germany in 1190 and King of Italy in 1194. He was also crowned Holy Roman Emperor in 1198. Henry VI died in 1198 and was succeeded by his son, Philip.
