Pulcheria was the daughter of Empress Aelia Eudoxia and Emperor Arcadius. She was born in 398 AD in Constantinople. Her father died when she was just three years old, and her mother remarried soon after. Pulcheria grew up in a palace in Constantinople and received a good education. She was a devout Christian and became a nun when she was 18 years old.
