Rashid al-Din Hamadani was born in 1247. He was a Persian historian, physician, philosopher, and polymath who served as the vizier of the Ilkhanate under the patronage of Hulagu Khan. He was a prolific writer and is best known for his Universal History, which is a comprehensive chronicle of the world from the Creation to the year 1304.
