Answer

Tadeusz Mazowiecki was the first non-communist Prime Minister of Poland since 1946. He was appointed by President Lech Wałęsa on 24 August 1989, after the Solidarity trade union had won the 1989 parliamentary election. Mazowiecki's government implemented a series of reforms that led to the transition of Poland from a one-party state to a multi-party democracy.
